Lesson 9 – Unit 7: What We Remember, What We Forget

Lesson 8 – Global Warming and the Environment

We began by checking our answers for Language Focus and Vocabulary Extension in Unit 5.

Textbook U6: Global Warming and the Environment
After doing the Vocabulary Preview activity (p. 39), we did the reading The Global Issue of Climate Change (pp. 40-41) in class. We also did the Reading Comprehension task (p. 42) together.

    We had some time in class to use Quizlet. Study the set from our class page on Quizlet: AAV L9 Study Set.

    We had a vocabulary quiz from our list today using the Quizlet Test task.

    Write 2-3 paragraphs about one of the two Ecology topics (Unit 5 or Unit 6). Include additional information from 1-2 other resources. Be sure to follow the advice in the PDF below.

    2. Give it the title of your full name + AAV + L8 Homework (Taro Suzuki's AAV L8 Homework)
    3. Revise your paragraphs from Lesson 6 if necessary following the instructions found in Becoming a Better Writer.
    4. Due 11/28 21:59 
    Also, make revisions to your previous paper if needed. 

    In your textbook, do the Language Focus activity, the Vocabulary Extension activity (p. 37) and Vocabulary Reinforcement activity (p. 38).


    Spaced Repetition and the Forgetting Curve
    We watched videos about the best time to review new vocabulary (or any information). 

    You can rewatch the video here. It's from a competitor of Quizlet.



    Part of the idea of spaced repetition is what is called the forgetting curve. 



    The research shows that spacing your repetition to make retrieval more difficult is the best way to help long-term learning.

    How can you apply this with Quizlet?

    • Don't review the same set for a long time or every day (unless you are first learning it).
    • Use the Test tool mostly after first learning the words.
    • Occasionally review older sets.

    We had some time in class to use Quizlet. There is a set I have made just for this class. The vocabulary test will be from this list. I have added the vocabulary from Unit 5.


    We had a vocabulary quiz from our list today using the Quizlet Test task.

    Next week's quiz will be on the AAV Lesson 8 Study Set.
